      • Our Legacy

A tribute to our founders and their vision.

"For the purpose of the following: the intellectual, moral and material betterment of its members; to aid and foster study of the Gaelic language, literature and traditions of Ireland and propagating Irish music, customs, dances, arts, crafts and ideals..."

        Founding Principles

The Irish Social Club of Boston was established on June 27th 1945 but Social Clubs including the Irish Social Club of Boston really formed earlier, ours being at the Hibernian Hall on Dudley St. in Roxbury, then the Metropolitan Hall in Forrest Hills, Staunton St. in Dorchester and to the grand home it is in now, 119 Park Street, West Roxbury/Boston.

For over 80 years, leadership has changed hands, members actively participated in votes beyond just board elections. While they've helped shape the club into what it is today, its core has remained unchanged.

        A Home Away From Home

The club has served as a gathering place for generations of Irish/Irish Americans, fostering a sense of belonging and cameraderie. We have created a warm welcoming environment where even young new J1 visa arrivals remark on how it's a place that feels like home and they can find connection and guidance as they begin their new lives in the US just as some did 75+ years ago. The Irish did not have an easy time integrating or making ends meet. It was their hard work ethic that made a name for themselves and for the city walls of Boston in addition. America and Ireland furnished a glowing friendship through all of this.

        Cultural Enrichment

Traditional music, dance, and language lessons are opportunities we strive to provide for any desiring, whether offered in-house at the time or with well-known masters. We maintain our relationship with the public, charities, religious organizations, local businesses, and universities that often come in to interview the leadership about the club's history.

        Leadership

Our President, Sean Staunton from Galway, has over 60 years of connections within the Irish Community since he came to the U.S., let alone the Social Club. He is passionate about the Club and dedicates large sums of time to it and not to mention, keeps everyone entertained! He is invested in the future preservation not only for his own family but for all generations to come by means of this non-profit where the heritage stays alive in gathering and the preservation in intellectual discussion around keeping the doors open for progress.
